• Fresh juice of 1/2 lemon or lime
  • Slice of ginger (optional)
  • 1/10th teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 pint of filtered water


Cut and squeeze the juice of the lemon or lime into a cup. Thinly slice a small amount of ginger (if using) and also place into the cup. Measure out the cayenne pepper (again if using) and mix into the cup. Add the filtered water and mix all the ingredients thoroughly. The best time of the day to drink this lemon detox drink is when you first wake up on an empty stomach. Your body can then absorb the vitamins and minerals more effectively. Make this detox drink 3 or 4 times throughout the day for maximum effect.

Lemon health benefits

The top vitamin you will benefit from in lemons is vitamin C which is a natural antioxidant. Antioxidants neutralise free radicals and prevent many diseases and illnesses from forming lemon benefitswithin the body. Vitamin C is great for boosting the immune system and preventing the occurrence of common colds and flus. One of the most important health benefits of lemons is that they are alkaline. Drinking lemon juice regularly ensures the body’s PH level is in balance. When we consume too many acidic foods, namely processed and refined foods, meat and coffee, the PH level changes in our body to very acidic. Lemons have long been used to treat ailments such as colds and flus, respiratory problems and high blood pressure. The anti-inflammatory properties in lemons have been found to ease the pain in diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. Lemons have been found to be an effective blood purifier. While adding ginger to your detox drink is optional, as it will change the taste of the drink considerably, it is certainly worth adding due to its health benefits. Much like lemons, ginger also has powerful anti-inflammatory and immune boosting properties. Ginger is packed with vitamin B6,C and E and minerals magnesium, folate and niacin.

Cayenne pepper is the ultimate detoxifier and contains anti-fungal, anti-allergen and anti-cayenne pepperbacterial properties. Again this is an optional addition to your detox drink but is highly recommended. By adding both ginger and cayenne pepper to your detox drink, you will support a healthy digestive system and eliminate unwanted toxins from the body.
