What are Binaural Beats?
Sound has a profound ability to alter your brainwave state particularly when it has a rhythm to it.
Our ancestors knew this instinctively. African tribes would use special drumming techniques to take the members of their ritual into a deep hypnotic trance. Medicine men would use these rituals to invoke deep visions, aid recovery from sickness, injuries and even communicate with the spirits.
With modern audio technology called binaural beats, you can mimic this same technique digitally through a special, trance-inducing technique known as brainwave entrainment.
What is Brainwave Entrainment?
When you hit a tuning fork, tuned to a particular sound frequency such as the note B, and hold it close to the strings of a guitar, you will notice that the B string on the guitar will vibrate because it has entrained on to the same frequency of the tuning fork. Interesting enough, the other strings will not vibrate. Only the one with the same tuning as the tuning fork.
Like the pulses of vibration that produce sound on a guitar string, your brain also creates pulses of vibrations.
These vibrations are electrical impulses.
Their activity can be measured by using an EEG (electroencephalogram), which measures the frequency of these pulses. The frequency of these pulses is mesured in Hertz (Hz).
Your brain actually has a predominant frequency at which it operates in any given moment; this can be associated with your state of mind. In other words, the emotional state of your mind in any moment, such as feeling happy, sad, frightened, sleepy or excited, can be measured as a frequency and with the right sound technology, you can stimulate the state that you want on command!
How Do Binaural Beats Work?
When you play two separate frequencies in each ear, say 140 Hz and 149 Hz, the difference in frequency is 9 Hz. Your brain compensates for this difference and a third tone of 9 Hz is experienced. This will result in your brain being lowered or raised and tuned into the desired frequency. This is how binaural beats are produced. Headphones are essential for this to work.
How Do Binaural Beats Work – Effects On Brainwaves
There are 5 broad categories of brainwave frequencies that are associated with the different states of mind:
Gamma Waves (40Hz+) are the apex of human brainwave frequencies of 24hz and higher. They have been associated with peak concentration, and your brain’s optimal cognitive functioning.
Beta Waves (13-40Hz) are associated with normal waking consciousness. When you are focused on activities that require a lot of thinking, such as working, doing calculations, or reading complex non-fiction books, for prolonged lengths of time, you can start to feel stressed out.
Alpha Waves (7-13hz) are associated with light meditation, peak performance, creativity and relaxed alertness. Your brain goes into this state naturally when you are daydreaming. Alpha waves also become more predominant when you close your eyes and relax your mind. This is the perfect state to be in for subliminal mind programming and enhancing your creativity.
Theta Waves (4-7Hz) are associated with deep meditation. They occur during heightened states of creativity and inspiration as you begin to process unconscious material.
Delta Waves (<4Hz) are associated with a deep sleep state or unconsciousness. Experts of deep meditation can consciously move into this state of mind and access the higher brain centre. After much practice, out of body experiences and astral projection are possible during these meditative states.
Through the use of the right brainwave entrainment therapy protocols you can train your brain to be able to consciously flow more easily into desired brainwave states at will, without becoming dependent on the technology to experience the effects.
How Do Binaural Beats Work – What Are The Uses Of Binaural Beats?
For getting into deep sleep state you want to bring your brain into deep delta frequencies. A normal session would take you from a waking beta state, through alpha and then down into theta a delta over a period of 30 minutes to 1hr.
Better focus and to increase performance
For hyper-focus, motivation and energy you want to stimulate high gamma brainwave frequencies. A frequency of 18hz has been very effective for improving chronic fatigue and as a replacement for caffeine. For more relaxed alertness you want to focus on the alpha level.
What are the best resources to find binaural beats?
I have been an innovator and pioneer of brainwave technology for the last 7 years. I’ve enhanced the principals of binaural beats technology with music and have evolved them into Trypnaural Brainwave Entrainment Music or simply, Trypnaural Beats.
This music is now used by many well known therapists, meditators and healing centers around the world and you can have access to it too:
I also love and have been inspired by the work of the late great, Bill Harris, the founder of Holosync and also Robert Monroe from The Monroe Institute.

What are some tips you have for beginners just starting to explore binaural beats? (example – meditate for 5 minutes before putting in your earphones, etc.)
Binaural beats must be listened to using headphones. You definitely should not use them while driving or operating heavy machinery as you will be in an altered state of mind. Brainwave entrainment is a form of meditation and designed to be very passive, in fact, all you need to do is sit back, put on your headphones and let the technology do the work for you. It is best to find a session that you find soothing to listen to, as binaural beats on their own are a very strange sound that can be disturbing to some listeners. This was actually what inspired me to invent Trypnaural as a way for brainwave entrainment to be more bearable to listen to for long periods of time.
How long does it take for people to experience the effects of binaural beats? Do results improve the longer/more regularly people use them?
A usual session is around 30 minute – 1hr in duration. However as your brain is like a muscle, the more you use them the faster the effects will become over time, to the point you may not even need to use them again to get the same effects such as getting to sleep more quickly.
Is there a way to make binaural beats even more effective?
In my years of sound technology exploration, I’ve found that the music works even better when mixed with meditation and breathwork. After practicing many different disciplines and seeing amazing results in my own life I started sharing with others this knowledge.
After seeing hundreds of people healing and improving their lives with this information I’ve put together a system that mixes the latest advancement of sound technology: Trypnaural Beats with simple yet potent techniques for breathing, self-hypnosis and meditation.
It’s called SOMA, and you can join a Free Sunday Webinar where I will show you exactly how to use this knowledge, plus much more mind blowing, science backed information with the potential to exponentially improve your life.
